Collaborative Personal Project

This is a project developed in my free time, in collaboration two friends. My role on this project was of Network Programmer, while the others' role was of Level Designer and Gameplay Programmer.

We equally took part in the overall design decisions, since we were all very involved with the project. We used to meet at least weekly to discuss possible changes both design & tech wise or just to bounce off new ideas. We also decided to show this prototype at Nordic Game Jam, were we got some valuable feedback from other developers attending.

We wanted to create an online FPS shooter that resembled an arcade shooter style, such as Unreal Tournament, very fast pace with a set amount of weapons and ammo, that you could only recharge with pick-ups distributed all over in the map.

You could start with two weapons only and to change them you could only interact with a pick-up. We also decided to include a grappling hook mechanic to make the game even more fast pace and chaotic.

More in detail I scripted the lobby system in Photon that allowed us to create and join different matches at the same time and have a decent number of people playing simultaneously. Initially we started with Unity's uNet system but switched to Photon shortly after.

I also helped the gameplay programmer improve networking performance and generally do some lag fixing. I also debugged most of the issues that were harder to find, as I had the most experience with Visual Studio's debugger. Overall this has been one of my favorite projects to work, both because of the team and the genre of game.
